About

Caroline Bittenbender

Originally from Philadelphia, PA, I am a recent alum of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Media and Journalism and Global Studies, with a focus on Latin American arts, culture and identity.

I am currently working in Philadelphia as a freelance multimedia specialist.

I believe that making and sharing images to convey the human condition is the most impactful form of storytelling, and that every visual story contributes to achieving a more intimate understanding of the world.

Projects

Living Galápagos (2022)

For one semester, I had the opportunity to join a group of fellow student journalists in researching and implementing an international multimedia project in the Galapágos Islands, Ecuador. My photo story “A Part of Us” follows the life of farmer Milton Aguas and the parallels that exist between his relationships with his family and the land in the San Cristóbal highlands.

I also worked on a larger team collaboration “Living on the Land,” which offers a glimpse of the intersection between human and nature on San Cristóbal Island and how residents are working towards a more sustainable future.

Carolina Photojournalism Workshop (2022)

In May, 2022 I participated in CPJW, an experiential learning course in which student photojournalists aim to film and produce a short documentary project in just one week. This year the project was based in Black Mountain, N.C. My short video project “The Love Lady” tells the story of Ruth Pittard, an activist who uses love as a call for change.
